About Us
Who We Are
Low Acid Organic Coffee is the educational blog and Amazon resource arm of Java Planet Organic Coffee Roasters — a family-owned, certified organic coffee company founded in 2008 by Jennifer and Mike Simmons.
For over 16 years, Java Planet has sourced, roasted, and sold 100% organic arabica coffee to thousands of customers across the United States. Everything published on this site comes directly from that hands-on experience — not from generic research, but from over a decade of working directly with coffee farmers, studying organic growing practices, and developing coffees specifically for people with sensitive stomachs.
Why We Built This Site
When Mike and Jennifer started Java Planet, they were surprised to discover how little straightforward, trustworthy information existed for coffee lovers dealing with acid sensitivity, gut issues, or a desire to avoid the chemicals found in conventional coffee.
Most of what they found online was either vague, commercially motivated, or written by people who had never actually sourced or roasted a single coffee bean.
So we built this site to fix that.
Low Acid Organic Coffee exists to give you honest, experience-backed answers to the questions we hear most from our Java Planet customers — questions about acid levels, brewing methods, certifications, stomach sensitivity, and what actually makes a coffee gentler on your body.
What Makes Our Content Different
Every article on this site is informed by Java Planet’s 16+ years of direct experience in the organic coffee industry. That includes:
- Direct knowledge of coffee sourcing — We have spent years building relationships with arabica coffee farmers and understanding how growing conditions, elevation, and processing affect acidity.
- Hands-on roasting expertise — Mike began home roasting years before Java Planet was founded. The roasting decisions that affect acid levels in your cup are not theoretical for us — they are part of our daily work.
- Real customer feedback — Thousands of Java Planet customers have shared how our low acid coffees have affected their acid reflux, GERD, and digestive sensitivity. That feedback shapes what we write about.
- Certified organic commitment — Java Planet is a certified organic roaster. We understand the organic certification process from farm to roaster, which means our content on pesticides, herbicides, and clean coffee is grounded in firsthand knowledge of the supply chain.
Our Credentials
Java Planet Organic Coffee Roasters is a certified organic coffee company that has been operating since 2008. Whenever possible, Java Planet sources Smithsonian Bird Friendly® Certified coffees — one of the most rigorous sustainability certifications in the coffee industry.
Java Planet was founded by Jennifer and Mike Simmons, who began roasting organic coffee at home before turning their passion into a full business. Their motivation from day one was to create coffee that was good for the people drinking it, good for the farmers growing it, and good for the planet.
